Nitrogen and SYLTHERM remain confined to the CRYOLOOP equipment. This concentrates the retrofit at the cold-production layer rather than inside the data hall. Immersion cooling removes heat at the rack by submerging IT equipment in a dielectric fluid. CRYOLOOP operates at a different layer: it is designed to provide the upstream cold source for the facility-water system. The technologies can therefore be complementary wherever an immersion system ultimately transfers heat to a facility-water loop. Nitrogen and SYLTHERM remain on the CRYOLOOP skid and do not enter the immersion bath or contact the IT equipment.

Commercial modules are intended to be clustered so capacity can scale with the facility load. Final module count, flow, redundancy, and operating setpoints will be matched to the site using CRYOLOOP’s validated rated-capacity data.

Does CRYOLOOP require an on-site liquid-nitrogen plant?

No. CRYOLOOP begins with an initial liquid-nitrogen charge produced off site and delivered by an industrial-gas supplier. The commercial baseline uses a cryocooler-based nitrogen condenser to capture returning vapor, reliquefy it, and restore the liquid inventory. On-site nitrogen generation is not part of the baseline and is not required by the CRYOLOOP architecture. Makeup nitrogen may be required only for actual operating losses, service events, or protective venting.

Heat absorbed in the vapor-cloud chamber causes nitrogen to warm and vaporize. The returning vapor travels through a dedicated insulated line to the cryocooler-based nitrogen condenser, where the absorbed heat is removed and the nitrogen is condensed back into liquid. A separate insulated liquid path returns LN₂ to the vapor-cloud chamber as required by the controls. The current design uses pressure-controlled transfer and does not require a dedicated LN₂ circulation pump. The closed nitrogen circuit recovers vapor instead of treating the initial LN₂ charge as a one-way consumable, while modular clustering allows capacity, redundancy, maintenance isolation, and load-following to be engineered for the application. The current program is establishing rated output, recovery capacity, endurance performance, and the optimal commercial configuration for each duty level.

That creates a compelling opportunity to reduce on-site cooling-plant electricity, but the net reduction will be quantified using matched-load, full-cycle measurements with equivalent beginning and ending nitrogen inventory. Because PUE is a whole-facility metric, CRYOLOOP’s eventual PUE contribution will depend on both measured cooling-plant performance and the rest of the site.

A selected warm-side design may circulate water or glycol in a closed loop, but that fluid is not routinely consumed through evaporation. This does not mean that every data center or site has zero total water use; WUE can include other facility and electricity-related water consumption. CRYOLOOP removes the cooling tower’s direct evaporative contribution—turning one of the largest cooling-plant water demands into a non-issue.

Where CRYOLOOP displaces an HFC-based chiller plant, it removes that refrigerant-use and leak pathway from the cold-production layer. The U.S. AIM Act mandates an 85% phase-down of HFC production and consumption from historic baseline levels by 2036; it is a phasedown, not a universal ban on every HFC or existing chiller. CRYOLOOP gives operators a fundamentally different path that avoids dependence on an HFC refrigerant circuit.

How does CRYOLOOP address cryogenic and pressure-vessel safety?

CRYOLOOP applies established industrial cryogenic and pressure-vessel practices. Nitrogen is nonflammable, but liquid nitrogen is extremely cold and nitrogen gas can displace oxygen, so installations require vacuum-insulated equipment, pressure relief, safe vent routing, oxygen-deficiency monitoring, ventilation, isolation valves, instrumentation, interlocks, emergency shutdowns, trained personnel, and site-specific code review. CRYOLOOP is being developed with MITCO Fabrication & Welding, an ASME U-, S-, and PP-code-stamped and NBIC R-certified fabricator. Commercial vessels, piping, relief systems, controls, and installations will be engineered to the applicable requirements for their specified pressure, temperature, materials, and location.
